It occurs to me that now that Crisis has OKed redistribution on IRC, it might be a good time to start up a channel on MIRC-X (#sakura-crisis or something) so that Crisis could put the S-C.net stuff on MangaBot for people to download from any channel whether or not there's anyone actively in #sakura-crisis at a given time. MangaBot is wonderful, and the MIRC-X admin makes it available to any scanslation group on his network. (His name's Chris.)

Actually, I think Obsession's on MIRC-X too; not sure why they don't take advantage of the existence of MangaBot...

I'm definitely not saying replace the HTTP versions with the IRC versions (I *LIKE* HTTP) but it might be a useful adjunct that could help reduce the bandwidth needed by the HTTP server if there was a reliable and commonly available IRC alternative...

I already serve *some* stuff (with Crisis' permission of course). And I agree. Actually, i was gonna post a topic like this a while back but explorer crashed and I never retyped it ;P But yeah, I'm experienced in working with IRC and dealing with fserves. If you want, I can set up the channel or something if you need someone who knows how to do that kind of thing I know most ppl here are HTTP/FTP users for files so I'm willing to help with wjhat I can.

    *EDIT*

Ok, I had some time, I set everything up. Channel is #Sakura-Crisis on irc.mircx.com (same server as obsession's). Might need to fine tune descriptions, topic, etc, but it's basically set up. All I need to do is grab a couple ppl for ops to control the place (preferably people who are confident in IRC skills so they can ban properly and otherwise manage the channel). Then we'll also need servers too. I already have Crisis (I think) set up as the succesor of the channel and at access level 9 (same as me for the moment). She's not on right now or I woulda used her hostmask to set up the access. Anyway, so get to the channel and we'll see if we can't help take care of some of the bandwidth problems.

And Risu-Chan, if you use IRC, I definately wanna make sure you have control there too because you know this group like the back of your hand That and I don't wanna be in charge of the channel unless nobody else wants to/can do it

    *EDIT AGAIN*

MIght need hostmasks to add ppl properly Gonna fiddle with it for a while and see if I can force users to identify before getting channel access.

Not only is it a great place to serve files, but you can talk to people too!

Have MangaBot serve files is a good idea. Oh, and if help is needed to serve files or whatnot :: point point :: I can help as well

^_^;; I know IRC mostly from a user's end -- I've never been an admin or a server because I'm double-firewalled everywhere I can connect to the Net, so there's really no way I can personally serve files through IRC reliably.

But I CAN get them to MangaBot's administrator for serving, I'm pretty sure... I'll go check it out over lunch...

Why do I get the feeling I'm gonna end up in charge of this because I prolly know IRC the best What we need more than anything is a bot for the channel to handle a few things like auto voice for new servers and stuff. The most I can do is set ppl up via chanserv which is reliable, but not automated. And we'll need a bot to do things because I can't be online 24/7. If I could find someone on a cable connection willing to just run an irc client as a bot using sysreset or something, we could probably handle it that way. Then I could probably get the source for a bot my friend wrote and that would handle security things too like solid spam and flood protection.

Mahyla's in there with a 24/7 script. ^__^ And I just got in touch with Chris the sys admin who gave me an FTP way to feed MangaBot (so I don't have to try to get around the 2-firewall problem to do it through IRC)! ^___^ He says MangaBot should be in the channel now; I'm not at a computer where I can check that (mid mad patching on 20 drives @_@) but as soon as I get a chance this evening I'll go feed MangaBot and get us up and going that way...

Yeah, I was planning on getting mahyala aops when I get home (at school right now and doing such things over Java IRC just sucks horrendously). Also, do you have an FTP or something or any way to get some files to me? I could probably ask other ppl, but seeing as the server with some of the YnM and whatever went over bandwidth or whatever, I wanna dump all that onto my serv. That way I could distro it to other servers and get that going again.

It's all on MangaBot now (or will be soon) -- as an op you probably have higher-priority leech rights from there... do you have an FTP server? If you PM me server/login info, I can FTP the same stuff to you that I FTPed to MangaBot -- got to go get dinner first though...
